The Partnership Our first major success has been to bring together the three bodies who organise and run golf in the County of Devon to work in partnership to grow the game. We know that golf has been played in Devon since the 19th Century and Royal North Devon Golf Club, founded in 1864, is the oldest in England. Never before in this long history have Men, Ladies, and Professional Golfers formally united to develop the game. The Website The EGU/ELGA Development Team are using our site as an example of "best practice" in website design and content for County Golf Partnerships. Traffic on the site is growing rapidly and we are actively promoting our golf clubs and golf centres. EGU/ELGA Coaching Grants Applications have more than doubled in 2007. For the Free Coaching scheme applications have risen from 7 to 16 Clubs, and for Junior Coaching from 11 to 24 Clubs. National Skills Challenge Six out of the twenty finalists at EGU HQ in Woodhall Spa were from Devon, five from Royal North Devon Golf Club and one from Yelverton Golf Club. Our youngsters won three out of the four age group categories. Volunteer PGA Level 1 Coaches 15 volunteer coaches have been accredited and are working to support their Club Professionals. Talent Centres Sport England have awarded the Devon Golf Partnership £20,000 over the next three years to set up a network of Talent Centres to identify and nurture young golfers who have the ability to reach county standard and beyond. |
